DVD (DIGITAL VIDEO DISC)

After the futuristlc-looking compact dtse (CD) took the  audio market by srorm-consigning the humble  cassette rape to the back of  billion cupboardS-it  was only a matter of time beFore technolagicalwizards  set their sights on abolishing the VHS tape.     Although the technology for LaserDise already existed, it never really took off in the way that CD technology did, and so the market for a compact digital video disc was still very much open. The first proposals for a high-density CD were put forward in 1993, leading to the creation of two competing formats. Electronic powerhouses Sony and Philips led their collected investors forward with the MMCD format. going head to head with indusrry giants Toshiba, Masushita, and Time Warner's effort. the SD. Then, in 1995, a combined effort-known as the DVD-was off, cially announced and consequently developed by a consorrium of ten companies.

REUSABLE SPACECRAFT

Booster rockets-such as the Sarurn V that launched the Apollo astronauts toward the Moon-are extremely wasteful. They can fly only once, parts are thrown away after use, and 97 percent of the mass is consumed in the first few minutes. Clearly, what was really needed for advanced and economic space exploitation was a spacecraft that could take off and return, to be reused time after time.    In 1972 NASA in the United States decided to build the Space Shunle. Rockets were to be used to assist the launch. Crew facilities were to be provided for up to eight people, and the huge cargo bay would be used to take satellites and sections of the International Space Station (iss) into orbit. New instruments would also be taken up to existing spacecraFt, and in-orbit J repairs would be carried out.

X-Ray Photography

Image
A n X-ray is a form of electromagnetic radiation with a very short wavelength, in the range 10 to o.o1 nanometers. German physicist Wilhelm Rontgen (1845-1923) was experimenting with cathode rays in 1895 when he realized that these produced another form of radiation when they hit the glass of the cathode ray tube. He called them X-rays, as 'X" stands for the unknown in mathematics.         R ontgen discovered that X ray passed through soft materials, such as paper, card, and fabric and produced fluorescence and can be used to form images on a barium-coated photographic plate. His next experiments involved human tissue. He asked his wife to put her hand on the photographic plate and discovered that the X-rays passed through the flesh, but not through her bones, or her ring. Rontgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize for Physics in 1901.         X -rays are a form of ionizing radiation, causing ions to be produced from the atoms that they hit,whi...

THREATENED PLANET

OUR EARTH O n every front-land, air, and water-              human activities have consequences,            many of them negative. Earth faces            environmental stresses, some urgent             and all needing attention. No part of the world remains untouched, no natural system untainted. Our forests regulate water flow, retain carbon, distribute nutrients, and produce soil-yet they are disappearing.         C utting, burning, and leveling operations reduce forests, mostly tropical, by an area equal to Florida each year. Habitat loss threatens species. Coastal areas experience degradation. By 2.060, erosion may claim a quarter of all homes in the U.S. within 500 feet of the shoreline. Our oceans are Polluted and overexploited.         M ore than 70 percent of marine fisheries are depleted. More th...

Do you know how does the GPS work?

Image
HAPPY DIWALI TO ALL MY FRIENDS!! 🎇🎇🎇 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇 MAY THIS DIWALI BRING YOU MORE HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY! Before knowing how does the GPS work let us know what the GPS stands for. GPS stands for Global Positioning System. GPS was originally developed for military use.It has three components:satellites orbiting earth, master control stations around the world, and receiver installed in locations ranging from naval destroyers to private golf carts.        In the U.S. GPS system 24 satellite orbit the earth every 12 hours, following six different orbits.Three additional satellites orbits as backup. The satellites contains atomic clocks that sends precise times with each signal. The control station monitors the satellites, using remote controlled-on board thrusters to manage their positions.        When a GPS user on land or sea calls for location information, signals pass from orbiting satellites to that user's receiver. The leng...

Do you know how mummy's were made? Process of Mummification.

Image
What is a Mummy?  Mummy is basically body of human being or animal which is preserved with resins and then wrapped with Bandages.  Making of Mummy The ancient Egyptians believed in afterlife;life after death and they used to say if your dead body rotted or was damaged in this world in any kind then your spirit would suffer in afterlife. Rich Egyptians arranged for their bodies to be preserved after their death. Their techniques worked so well that some of the mummies Are still intact to this days.  1.Removing of Organs from the body After washing the body with wine, priests removed the internal organs. Special hooks were used to pull out the brain through the nostrils. The heart was not taken out as they believed that it was the home of the soul.  2.Drying out the body The hollowed out body was packed with bags of natron(a natural salt that drew water out of the flesh). It was left like this for the period of 40 days while the natron did its...

Do you know that today we have the technology to produce synthetic Diamonds?

Image
The idea of creating a man made diamond is a very appealing one--a kind of alchemy (the process of turning base metal into gold), but one that is,remarkably achievable.Synthetic diamonds actually comes in two kinds :-simulant (which are diamond-like in looks and structures )and synthetic, where the chemical structure of the stone is also the same. The latter is "true"synthetic diamond.        Simulant diamonds made from silicon carbide were first discovered by Henri Moissan in a meteorite crater in 1893.They were later reproduced by him and others in the lab, most famously Willard Hersey, whose diamond can still be seen st the McPherson museum at Kansas. It was not until 1953,however,when a team led by Baltzar von Platen (1898-1984), working in secret for the Swedish electrical company ASEA,actually succeeded in generating sufficient heat and pressure to create the first synthetic diamond.Their machine generated 83,000 atmospheres of preassure and ran for two hour...

Have you ever heard of a train powered by a Magnet?

Image
The Maglev train route in Shanghai Magnetically levitated (maglev) glide above track, propelled by superconducting magnets. The principle is more than a century old,but initially the huge electrical current needed to provide a sufficiently strong magnetic field were impractical. The breakthrough came when the two physicists,Gordon Danby and James Powell,at Brookhaven national laboratory decided to use high temperature superconductors as electromagnets. They obtained a patent for the technology in 1968,and by 1979,visitors to transportation exhibition in Hamburg,Germany ,were enjoying a short test run on transrapid maglev train.        Maglev trains need a guiding track and the carriages float above it.Changing the field produced by electromagnets in the guideway pulls the train along. The only friction is due to air resistance,so extremely high speed are possible.Change in field strength can produce very high acceleration, and much more variable track gradients c...

Do you know the full form of JCB?Here's it!

Image
Almost every one know this beast with the name of JCB,but have you ever wondered what JCB stands for? The full form of JCB is Joseph Cyril Bamford Which stands for its inventor from Staffordshire,England. In 1945,using only scrap metal, surplus war Jeep axles and cheap welding kit,he created a hydraically Operated tipping trailer that he later sold for 45£(180$ at that time). With the dump truck like tipping trailer created,Bamfords business grew steadily as he designed and built new machines using hydraulic power. When the backhoe loader was created in 1953,the JCB® Logo was used for the first time, based on its inventor's initial.           Typical backhoe loaders are made of three components:a tractor,a loader and a backhoe. The tractor enables the backhoe loader to transverse difficult terrains of all sorts. At the front of tractor, the loader can scoop, smooth and push great quantities of material.Meanwhile, the back of the tractor sports a backhoe,...

THIS WAS THE ATOM BOMB USED AGAINST HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI!

Image
This was the leader of World War 2 During the world war 2 the united state used an unprecedented $2 billion to feed an ultra-secret research and development program, the outcome of which would outcome the relationship of nations forever.Known as Manhattan project,it was the search by the united states and her closest allies to create an atomic bomb:a single devise capable of mass destruction, the treat of which alone could be powerful enough to end the war.        The motivation was simple.Scientists escaping the Nazi regime had revealed that research in Germany had confirmed the theoretical viability of atomic bombs. In 1939,in support of their fears that the Nazis might now be developing such a weapon,Albert Einstein and others wrote to president Franklin .D. Roosevelt(FDR) warning of the need for atomic research.By 1941 FDR had authorised formal, coordinated scientific research into  a device.Among those whose efforts would ultimately unleash the power o...

Synthetic Blood is here!

Image
Do you know that Synthetic Blood is developed? What is synthetic blood? PolyHeme, substitute for blood Synthetic blood is a product that acts as a substitute for red blood cells, designed for the purpose of transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide around that body.        The development of artificial blood is desirable for the problems associated with the blood transfusion, particularly the risk of transmitting viral diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis. There are also difficulties with transporting and storing blood,as well as a shortage of blood sober as the synthetic blood is kept in powder form.        In 1956 Thomas chan, working on an undergraduate research project at McGill University,Montreal, created the first artificial blood cells.Turning his dormitory room into a makeshift laboratory, chan used improvised materials(including perfume atomiser) and cellulose nitrate solution (a material used to cover cuts and wounds) to make a perm...

Have you ever heard about Hip replacement?

Image
Do you know about Hip replacement? More than 800,000 hip replacement operations are carried out globally every year. These enable their recipients to live more mobile and pain-free lives after their worn, damaged,or diseased hip joints are replaced by artificial prostheses.      It was the pioneering work of english surgeon John Charnley (1911-1982 ) that led to low friction arthroplasty becoming the gold-standard procedure for hip replacement.Charnley moved from a method of compression fixation of fractures to considering actually replacing the joint during his investigations into the best ways to treat Osteoarthritis and other conditions limiting hip movement. In a lecture to the East Denbigh and Flint division of the British Medical Association in 1959,he said,"In orthopedics, surgeons yearn for an easy hip operation,or,if a good operation is difficult,...[that]it should be universally applicable."  ...

Do you know that Artificial skin has been developed?

Image
Do you know that Artificial Human skin has been developed? Human skin is a marvel of engineering. It is tough yet stretchy and piable and acts as an impermeable barrier against water loss, infection and Suns ultraviolet(UV) rays. With this range of properties,it is difficult material to make a clone or duplicate it!              John .f. Burke,a surgeon at Massachusetts general hospital in united states, was looking for a reliable skin replacement for the treatment of burn victims.Skin is usually grafted from other parts of the patient's body, but in case where the burns cover 50% or more of the body, often there is not enough healthy skin to cover the damaged area.             In 1970s Burke teamed up with Loannis V. Yannas,a chemistry professor at Massachusetts institute of technology(MIT) who was studying a stretchy protein called collagen that naturally occurs in an animals Tendon.Burke and Yannas combined coll...

Have you ever heard about Invisible coat?

Image
The Man behind the coat is Susumi Tachi As always Japanese technology had given a boost to the twenty first century.Soon the soldiers may be using invisible coats to blend with the background,i.e Be invisible! This invention is taken out by Susumi Tachi,a professor at Tokyo university, where he works on the"science and technology of artificial reality".Ironically ,since now he works to make things Invisible! He had recently developed a Robotic dog to guide the blinds.                 The optical camouflage developed by Tachi and his research team works by Filming the background environment and projecting it onto the coat worn by the test subject. However, this is no average coat.It is covered in thousands of tiny beads that reflect back to its source, therefore leaving the coat invisible.Though this technology is not fully developed to provide invisibility.                 Tachi patented the "Method an...

Using Robots for Human Surgery?Robots replaces Doctors!

Image
In 1954 George Devil created the first programmable industrial robot. It consisted of multijointed manipulated arm and a magnetic storage device to hold and replay instructions.More advanced versions worked at assembly lines in 1960s.In 1978,the PUMA(Programmable Universal Machine for Assembly)was introduced by Victor scheinman and quickly became the standard for commercial robots.          Dr.Yik San kwoh (1946) invented the robot-software interface that allowed the first robot aided surgery in 1985."ole" was a modified PUMA that could perform a type of neurosurgery. In the surgery,a small probe travelled into the skull,a linked CT scanner provided a 3D picture of the brain,And the robot plotted the best part to the lesion."ole" was used for biopsies of deeply located suspected tumors.          Before his device be used on humans, kwoh needed to test it.Small metal objects were inserted in four watermelons. The robot quickly located ...

Do you know about Water Bed?Check it out!

Image
What is a Water Bed? A water bed consists of heated, water filled mattress inside either a "hard-sided" rectangular wooden frame or a "sofa-sided"robust foam frame. Both sides rely on a strong metal platform to bring the mattress at a convenient height.Early models had only one water chamber within the mattress, making it very bouncy, but later designs incorporated fiber blocks and several interconnected water chambers to reduce the wave action. Some modern water beds comprises a mixture of air and water chambers.Thermostatically controlled electrical heating pads usually maintain the water at body temperature,at around 30°c                   In 1883 Dr.william Hooper of portsmouth,England, obtained a British patent for water bed designed for patients at risk of developing bedsores. However, his models lacked the technologies to ensure that the beds were watertight, and he was unable to control water temperature,so his invention was not a co...

Who invented the Ambulance?

Image
The Emergence of life saving locomotive. Ambulances first began to appear on the Nepoleonic battlefields of France in 1792.It was invented by the surgeon,Dominique-jean Larrey(1766-1842),who had grown frustrated with regulations requiring him to stay to the back. After observing how the mobility of the French artillery helped it to quickly disengage from an advancing enemy, larrey proposed to the military hierarchy what he called an Ambulance volunte,or "flying ambulance",that would follow the artillery into battle and tend to the wounded where they fell.           Larry devised a wheel carriage driven by horse with a central compartment able to carry two patients comfortably on leather-covered horsehair mattress;windows on either side provided good ventilation.            There were also other types of ambulances driven by Camels.  They looked like :-        Camel driven Ambulance I...

Who invented the Internet?

Image
Advanced Research Project Agency develops the Internet. In 1963, Advanced Research Project Agency(ARPA) unit, set up by us defense department, began to build a computer network. The reason behind this was the fear of nuclear threat by Soviet Union,it aimed to link computers at different locations,so the researchers could share data electronically without having fixed route between them which made their system less vulnerable to attack--even nuclear ones.  The mechanism        Schematic diagram by Larry roberts Data was converted into telephone signals using a modem( Mo dulator- Dem odulator), Developed by AT&T in the late 1950s.In 1960s,key advances were made, including "packet switching" -- a system of packaging, labelling and routing data that enables it to be delivered across the network between machines.Paul baran proposed this system, which broke each message down into tiny chunks. This would be fired into the network, which would then route("swit...
