Synthetic Blood is here!

Do you know that Synthetic Blood is developed?

What is synthetic blood?

PolyHeme,substitute for blood

Synthetic blood is a product that acts as a substitute for red blood cells, designed for the purpose of transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide around that body.
The development of artificial blood is desirable for the problems associated with the blood transfusion, particularly the risk of transmitting viral diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis. There are also difficulties with transporting and storing blood,as well as a shortage of blood sober as the synthetic blood is kept in powder form.
In 1956 Thomas chan, working on an undergraduate research project at McGill University,Montreal, created the first artificial blood cells.Turning his dormitory room into a makeshift laboratory, chan used improvised materials(including perfume atomiser) and cellulose nitrate solution (a material used to cover cuts and wounds) to make a permeable sack that could transport haemoglobin.Haemoglobin can be extracted from old blood done, cow's blood, plants and fungi. It is modified to ensure it is stable before being used in human body.
Synthetic blood had not yet become an alternative for real blood, but it has been used apart from research. There are ethical questions about its use and weather people will accept artificial blood.Europe has explored haemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs),wheareas the United States had focused on perfluorocarbons (PFCs), a Teflon-type group of synthetic liqiuds. But HBOCs and PFCs still lack two ingredients of real blood:White blood cells to fight infection and platelets to help blood clot.Finding a substitute that performs all the bloods functions still eludes scientists.
